Fiji
Comprising of 333 islands in the South Pacific, the nation of Fiji is one of the most exotic and highly prized destination in the region for Taylor’d Yacht Charters . Known long ago as the Cannibal Islands due to the ferocious, maneating natives that once inhabited them, they offer a mixture of volcanic mountains, tropical rainforests, barrier reefs teeming with marine life, and white sandy beaches..
Settled originally by Polynesians, Fiji’s islands were discovered by Dutch explorer Abel Tasman in 1643. Captain Cook anchored near here in 1774, and the passage between the larger islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levi was named for the infamous Captain William Bligh, of Mutiny on the Bounty fame, who sailed through here in his longboat pursued by Fijians in their war canoes.
A mecca for eco-tourists, only a third of the islands are inhabited. Crystalline waters, colorful coral, and dramatic underwater walls make the deserted isles a magnet for divers and snorkelers, but luxury resorts comprised of bures, which are traditional thatched cottages, and bohemian bars can be found here, along with many of the world’s most beautiful beaches. You can also stay aboard your lovely yacht you have chartered from Taylor’d Yacht Charters and take in the amazing scenery.
While some adventurous sailors sail to Fiji’s northern latitudes, the archipelago formed by the Manumanca and Yasawa islands northwest of the island of Viti Levu offers a perfect island hopping experience. For a sneak preview, see the movie Castaway and either version of
