2017 has turned into an extraordinary year for Greek tourism, with a 20-70% rise in pre-bookings and a 90-100% occupancy rate in the most popular destinations. Elena Kountoura, Greece’s Tourism Minister, recently made the welcome announcement, adding that there has also been a sharp increase in bookings and overnight stays. The Greek Tourism Confederation has also confirmed that a record breaking 3.2 million visitors are expected to arrive in the country’s various airports in the month of August. With an increase of 6,6% on last year’s arrivals for the same period, the figures can only be good news for Greece in terms of travel receipts.

Always a popular choice for travellers, the above trend is evidence that Greece is now viewed as one of the top tourist destinations worldwide, with more and more visitors choosing to spend their vacation here. Having so much to offer in terms of superb weather, a spectacular array of islands and immaculate beaches,

it is no surprise that Greece is a magnet for holiday makers wanting to soak up the summer sun while enjoying the renowned Greek hospitality. Apart from its plethora of archaeological sites, monuments and its global historical significance, the country is also seen as a firm choice for those seeking a high level of hospitality standards and a safe environment right in the heart of Europe.

Sailing vacations are undoubtedly an incredible way to discover the beauty of Greece and also provide the exclusiveness and independence that many desire. As one of the most popular sailing hubs in the southern Mediterranean, brokers claim that more and more visitors are looking to charter this year, which is especially good news for the leisure yachting sector.

On the whole, an increase in Greek tourism is a very encouraging sign and an extremely welcome development for all!
