Spain Yacht Charters

The history of Spain is as rich, colorful, and diverse as any country in the world. The history of the Spanish people is a
mixture of the Roman, Moslem, Greek, Phoenician, and North African people that have called the Iberian Peninsula home at one time or another throughout history. With access to both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, present day Spain (which shares the Iberian Peninsula with Portugal) was a vital trading link and entry point into both northern Africa and southern Europe. The history of Spain has been influenced tremendously by this cross current of ethnicities and religions.

The culture and history of Spain has also been influenced not only by those who conquered and fought for control of the Iberian Peninsula, but by the artists who flourished during the golden age (El Greco, Diego Velasquez), as well as the more recent of the 20th century masters (Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro).

The most popular yacht charter destination in Spain remains the Balearic Islands. These are perfect for the clubber who enjoys nightlife, especially if they want to pay a visit to Ibiza. As well as the usual week long charters, day charters are available for tourists who wantto try it while on holiday. If you are in search of winter sun then the Canary Islands are worth considering. One can take a  week long voyage from the Spanish mainland to the Canary Islands
.  All of these popular charters can be had on a Taylor’d Yacht Charters boat.

Balearic Islands Yacht Charters

Floating dreamily between Spain and the North African coast lie the Balearic Islands. The four main islands Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera maintain a character distinct from the rest of Spain and from each other. During the months of June, July, and August, there is a massive invasion of multinational sun-and-fun seekers. Hardly surprising considering what the Balearic Islands have to offer:  fine beaches, relentless sunshine, good food, casinos, wild nightlife, and great yachtfing, especially if you charter a boat from Taylor’d Yacht Charters.

The best way to visit obviously, is by yacht. That way you can enjoy the craziness, yet escape or avoid it completely if you wish to. Beyond the 24 hour parties are Gothic cathedrals, Stone Age ruins, secluded coves, and towering mountains. Let’s start our discovery of the Islands on Formentera, the most southerly of the larger islands.

Formentera

The smallest of the four main Balearic Islands, Formentera, is actually two small islets joined together by a
narrow, sandy isthmus. Known as the “Forgotten Balearic”, Formentera is the getaway-from-the-getaway. Bikers and hikers will revel in the untouched landscapes and well marked trails; swimmers will appreciate the sandy beaches and the crystaline beaches.  The Romans grew wheat extensively on Formentera, hence its name, as forment means “cultivation of wheat” in the local dialect. The island at various times was inhabited by Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans. In the Middle Ages constant pirate attacks made it uninhabitable, and the island was abandoned for about 300 years until it was finally safe. If you are looking for culture, Formentera would not be the island that you should pick, but it would be a secluded destination on your chartered yacht from Taylor’d Yacht Charters.

Ibiza

Eleven nautical miles away lies Ibiza, the island of excess. This is where the party crowd from all over Europe and beyond comes to play.  Ibiza City is the capital of the island and of the fun.

Palma de Majorca

Palma was founded by the Romans in 123 B.C., captured by the Moors in A.D. 903, and entered the Catalan net in 1229. Approaching Palma on your charter yacht from Taylor’d Yacht Charters, the city is both beautiful and impressive.  The wonderful Gothic edifice of the La Seu cathedral with its magnificent rose window welcomes you into the port.

Menorca

The least developed of the Balearics, Menorca is essentially a rural island with rolling fields and wooded ravines.  As fascinating as the historical and party sites may be above, the best part of Menorca are the large bays with their many, often secluded anchorages and the miles of unspoiled beaches.
